La Roux are an English electropop duo comprising singer, keyboardist, co-writer and co-producer Elly (Eleanor) Jackson, and co-writer and co-producer Ben Langmaid.
Their music is influenced by eighties British synthpop acts such as Erasure, Depeche Mode, OMD, The Human League and Eurythmics. The band's name relates to Jackson's distinctive orange hair and androgynous appearance, mingling the masculine (le roux) and feminine (la rousse) French terms for "The Redhead".
La Roux's debut single, "Quicksand", was released by French independent record label Kitsuné Music. The band then signed to Polydor Records before releasing second single "In for the Kill" in March 2009. "In for the Kill" reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart.
After three months as the supporting act on Lily Allen's UK tour, third single "Bulletproof" was released in June 2009 and debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart.
