The Prodigy are an Essex-based electronic dance group led by Liam Howlett and featuring Keith Flint, Maxim and Leeroy Thornhill.
The Prodigy first emerged on the underground rave scene in the early nineties with the crossover hits "Charly" and "Out of Space".
The Prodigy's second album, 'Music for the Jilted Generation', fused electronic rock and industrial metal influences to their predominantly dance sound and entered the UK Albums Chart at number one. The album was shortlisted for the 1994 Mercury Music Prize.
Their third album, 1996's 'The Fat of the Land' increased the band's mainstream appeal, featuring tracks such as 'Firestarter' and 'Smack My Bitch Up' which utilised the familiar pop song format. The album featured contributions from Crispian Mills (Kula Shaker) and Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine).
