Amy Winehouse was a soul and jazz singer from Southgate, North London.
Her debut album 'Frank' (2003) was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her second album, 2006's 'Back to Black' was an international success and won an unprecendented five Grammy Awards. The first two singles form 'Back To Black' and "You Know I'm No Good' were also big chart sucesses.
Winehouse also provided the vocals for a version of The Zuton's "Valerie" which appeared on Mark Ronson's 2007 album 'Version'. Ronson had co-produced 'Back To Black'.
In 2007 Winehouse married Blake Fielder-Civil. Fielder-Civil was quoted in a British tabloid as saying he introduced her to crack cocaine and heroin. Winehouse struggled with mental health isues and drug dependency up to her death in July 2011.
